Mental Chess

A 'blindfold-lite' chess training tool that helps you improve your visualization skills by playing without a visual board.

About This Tool

We built this for chess players who want to get better at seeing the board in their mind. Most online chess platforms use a big, colorful board, which makes your brain 'lazy.' This tool strips all that away. You interact with the game through notation or a very minimalist view. It's designed to challenge your spatial memory and help you calculate moves ahead without a visual aid.

It isn't a replacement for Lichess or Chess.com. It's a cognitive workout tool specifically for training your 'inner board.'

The Problem It Solves

Most players hit a plateau because they can't calculate variations more than 2-3 moves ahead. We rely too much on the visual crutch of the board. This app removes that crutch. It forces you to maintain the position of 32 pieces in your head, which is one of the fastest ways to improve your actual over-the-board performance.

When to Use This

  • You want to practice 'Blindfold Chess' but need a structured environment where you can check the state if you get lost.
  • You want to improve your calculation speed and depth for competitive games.
  • You're waiting in line and want a game that actually exercises your brain more than a standard match.

How It Works

The app uses a backend chess engine to manage the legal state of the game. It avoids the traditional graphical interface. Instead, it passes the state to an LLM that acts as your narrator or adversary. This makes sure you're engaging with the game as a series of logical relationships rather than just visual patterns.
